5 For The Fight for Cancer Research

Hi,

I have somehow managed to get talked into running the Dublin Marathon in 3 weeks time. Although not exactly ready for it I was happy to agree as it is to support an amazing charity.

Take a look at the video on the right hand side. The first chap, Dermot, is a close colleague and friend and the second, Gerard, is the father of one of our employees. The goal of the charity is to hire researchers to tackle the most difficult forms of cancer (lung, oesophageal, ovarian and pancreatic) and my company has committed to raising £500,000 to fund these hires.

So I felt I should do my bit and run round Dublin for a few hours - thank you for any support you can give.

Simon

p.s. Oh and if you are wondering why I'm looking in such good shape on the team photo - they photo-shopped my head onto the young guy whose place I got given. I had tried the old "hey I'd love to do it but registration is closed", but they managed to find a way...thanks guys!

The Qool Runnings team will attempt the 2017 Dublin City Marathon on October 29th to raise money for Breakthrough Cancer Research. We've all had someone in our lives affected by cancer, and we believe that preventative research is the best way to help eradicate it entirely.

The Qool Runnings team consists of:

Rory Cawley - "Signing up for the marathon allows me to use the fear of being slagged off by my mates as primary motivation to keep exercising. I keep saying to myself - everything will be alright when I get to the starting line!"

Neil Bowden - "Aging GAA star coming to the end of his football career and taking up Marathon running as opposed to Golf"

Marco Nuti - "Running mainly to undo the damage I do over the weekends, but clearly I'm not doing enough... RUNNING! Going for my 8th Dublin Marathon, best thing about running a marathon? The pint at the end, of course!!!! ...wish me good of luck! "

Simon O'Kane - "The old guy on the team - this is going to hurt - donate lots of money please!"

Jacqueline Bowe - "Most people never run far enough on their first wind to find out they've got a second - Third Time Lucky!"

Sam Gill Murphy - "Controversial up-and-comer in the marathon community, highlights include finishing the Connemarathon in under 4 pints"

Fergal Condron - "Running away from my problems 42km at a time"
